Great Day for Senior Girls’ Footy!
On Monday, 24 July, twenty-two of our girls represented the Senior team in the Eastern Region against three other premiership teams: Mullauna, Vermont and Canterbury Girls. Our team this year was the most inexperienced we have entered for many years, in part because of major injuries to key on-field leaders: Emma Beer, Madalyn Robins and Alyssa Djuric. This, combined with the exit of a large contingent of 2016 year 12s, made way for four new players to don the guernsey at senior level for the first time.
Everyone contributed to a successful day, full of team spirit, skill, determination and fun. It was really pleasing to see so many parents in attendance, supporting their girls. A special thanks to Ms Munford and the boys without whose help as officials, we could not have entered a team.
A huge grand final awaits us on Tuesday against Box Hill Senior, for whom football is a part of their daily curriculum. The winner progresses to State level later in August. Regardless of the result, we can guarantee the Norwood girls will give it their best!

State Cross Country
On a day that could only be described as true winter weather, Rhys Higgins (7F), represented Norwood as our sole competitor at the Cross Country State Finals. At 1.20pm when the race began it was blowing a gale and all the students on the start line were saturated before the event even began. Rhys competed in the U13 Multi Class Event as a T35 competitor and finished the 3km course in 21.55, coming 6th in his age group against a range of competitors from different classes. I am sure Rhys would have taken the award for the muddiest competitor of the day and at the end of the cold, wet race it was great to see Rhys still smiling.
Congratulations Rhys on a fantastic performance!
