Spamalot - An outstanding production
As a long-time fan of Monty Python productions, it was with a degree of excitement that I heard, last year, that Spamalot was being planned as the 2017 production. Under the direction of Rohan Johnson and production of Janine Shipard, the musical took shape over many months and the ‘season’ was held two weeks ago. I was delighted with the quality of the students’ performances and was particularly pleased that all the performances were met with overwhelming acclaim – even by those with less experience with the somewhat idiosyncratic humour that is Monty Python.
The casting was done to perfection with the eight lead roles being performed exceptionally by:
- Jacob Hill King Arthur
- Arianne Gibson Lady of the Lake
- Chloe O’Brien Sir Robin
- Laura Ozzimo Sir Lancelot
- Aiden Mobley Sir Galahad and Prince Herbert
- Joshua Groom Sir Bedevere
- Sam Nash Patsy
- Seb Kostas Historian and Herbert’s father
The leads were supported by some very talented and hilarious performances – the ‘Knight of Ni’, the ‘French Taunter’, the ‘Black Knight’ amongst many honourable mentions.
Congratulations to all the cast and crew for all you gave to the performances. Thank you to the many who worked on sets, makeup, the technical side and backstage and particular thanks to the staff who led this wonderful and entertaining production:
- Rohan Johnson Director
- Janine Shipard Producer
- Jo Dema and Ruth Barry Musical Directors
Finally, thank you to the many families and friends who attended the performances. You certainly saw an outstanding production but also made the evenings worthwhile for the performers.
